In many cases, breast milk can be provided to babies receiving NICU care. If a baby is not yet able to breastfeed directly, mothers may be encouraged to express breast milk, which can be given using an appropriate feeding method based on the baby’s condition. As the baby becomes stronger and develops feeding skills, the neonatal and lactation teams can support the transition towards direct breastfeeding when appropriate.
