A child’s weight should be assessed in relation to their age, height, previous growth pattern and overall development rather than by weight alone. Some children are naturally smaller, while poor weight gain can sometimes be related to inadequate nutrition, feeding difficulties or an underlying medical condition. A pediatrician can review the child’s growth chart, diet and health history and recommend nutritional changes or further evaluation if needed.
