Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication involving high blood pressure, usually developing after 20 weeks, together with signs that other organs may be affected. Management depends on its severity, gestational age and the health of the mother and baby, and may involve closer monitoring, blood and urine tests, medication and fetal surveillance. Severe symptoms such as intense headache, visual disturbances, upper abdominal pain or breathing difficulty require urgent medical assessment.
