An ovarian cyst is a fluid-filled sac that develops on or within an ovary. Many ovarian cysts are related to the menstrual cycle and resolve without treatment. Treatment or closer monitoring may be required if a cyst is persistent, large, causes significant pain, has concerning features on imaging or develops after menopause.
