Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus. Symptoms can include severe period pain, chronic pelvic pain, pain during or after intercourse, painful bowel movements or urination around menstruation, and difficulty conceiving. Some women may have few or no noticeable symptoms, so medical evaluation is important when endometriosis is suspected.
